Traditionally, female wedding guests were not supposed to wear either white or black. What was the basis for these rules and are they still observed today?
Since the bride is usually dressed in white, women avoided wearing white so as not to detract from her on her special day. The bride’s shining white dress helped her to stand out in the crowds of people and the photos as well as making her look unique. Generally, guests should still avoid white since it is still important for the bride to have her glory. However, it is acceptable to wear white accents or to wear white paired with a bright color.
